Pearl Jam were one of the forerunners of the Seattle grunge explosion, joining contemporaries Nirvana and Alice in Chains in pioneering the rough, pared-down sound and emotionally barren, or alternatively anguished lyrics, that defined Generation X and proved pervasive through the next decade of alternative rock.
Though initially criticized for being "too mainstream," Pearl Jam continues 20 years later, to demonstrate an indie spirit and adherence to ethics that many of Pearl Jam predecessors began and many of their cohorts proved unable to sustain. More than many others, Pearl Jam has demonstrated their devotion to their fans.

In honor of Pearl Jam's 20th anniversary, award-winning director and music journalist Cameron Crowe created a definitive portrait of the seminal band carved from over 1,200 hours of rarely and never-before-seen footage, plus 24 hours of recently shot concert and interview footage. PEARL JAM TWENTY chronicles the years leading up to the band's formation, the chaos that ensued soon-after their rise to mega-stardom, Pearl Jam step back from center stage, and the creation of a work culture that would sustain them.

Part concert film, part insider hang, part testimonial to the power of music and uncompromising artists, the film celebrates the freedom that allowed Pearl Jam a way to make music without losing sight of what mattered most to them their fans and the music fans that they themselves had always been. PEARL JAM TWENTY features interviews with original band members Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, and Eddie Vedder, drummer Matt Cameron, and friend and Soundgarden singer/guitarist Chris Cornell, as well as archival performance and interview footage of Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, Temple of the Dog, Kurt Cobain and Neil Young.

To accompany the film, Pearl Jam is also releasing a "Pearl Jam Twenty" soundtrack. The soundtrack includes 29 rare and unreleased tracks on 2 CDs, hand-picked by Cameron Crowe with his original liner notes and never-before-seen photos in a 36-page booklet. It is packaged in a hard bound book.

In Your Dreams is 1st album from Stevie Nicks since her Grammy nominated "Trouble in Shangri-La" 10 years ago. In Your Dreams was written and recorded at Nicks' home in LA and is co-produced by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard. Nicks and Stewart co-wrote seven songs in the album's thirteen songs. "I had written a song in Brisbane, Australia when I was on tour with Fleetwood Mac in 2009 called 'Moonlight - A Vampire's Dream' which was inspired by the New Moon film. When I finished writing that song, which came together really quickly, I knew the time was right to start recording. We had a core group of five people who were at the heart of the creation of In Your Dreams. Dave and myself, my longtime friend and musical director, Waddy Wachtel, and my girls, Sharon Celani and Lori Nicks. It was a perfect blend,"" commented Nicks. "This was one of the most extraordinary experiences I've had making a record. It is the first album that I have had this kind of collaboration since the making of Rumours. Dave created a situation where I could be totally creative and focused on writing songs and making music. I cannot remember ever having this much fun making a record. Writing the songs and recording them in my home studio was the key element in how this music turned out. It made the whole process seem very similar to how we used to work back in the day," she concluded.

1st single is "Secret Love" written by Nicks. "It was 1976 and Fleetwood Mac was opening for Peter Frampton at the time. It was written about a forbidden relationship - not Peter and I," laughed Nicks. "I always knew that one day I was going to record the song."

Nicks is currently gearing up to join forces with fellow rocker Rod Stewart for the 16 city Heart & Soul Tour, one of the most anticipated music events of the year.

From Montreal to Vancouver via Seattle, Texas and Toronto, over 32 days tour on North America during this autumn, Gorillaz recorded a musical diary. The result is a collection of 15 tracks, some with vocals, some without, some combined performances and some solo. The 15 track sonic journal, titled The Fall, was produced by Gorillaz and Stephen Sedgwick.

The music was recorded during spare time while on the road. "I did it because there's a lot of time that you just spend staring at walls essentially. And it was a fantastic way of doing it" says Damon Albarn. "I found working in the day, whether it's in the hotel or in the venue, it was a brilliant way of keeping myself well." Adding that the collection is "..like a diary, I literally wrote everything on the day in each place and there's a strange sort of sound of America and its musical traditions that comes through. It feels like a journey through America."

'Rock And Roll Party To Honor Les Paul,' Jeff Beck's Concert Tribute To The Iconic Guitarist Recorded This Summer At The Iridium Jazz Club In New York City.

Jeff Beck paid fitting tribute to Les Paul last summer, celebrating what would have been the pioneering guitarist's 95th birthday by playing his friend and mentor's music, along with classic tunes from the era, in the same Times Square nightclub that Les Paul played every Monday for 14 years, before his death in August 2009.

Sponsored by Gibson Guitar and billed as 'A Celebration of Les Paul,' Jeff Beck was joined by The Imelda May Band at the Iridium Jazz Club on June 9th, 2010. The two-time Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductee mesmerized the star-studded audience with a tour de force performance of classics that Paul recorded with Mary Ford, 'How High The Moon,' 'Vaya Con Dios' and 'Mockin' Bird Hill,' along with such rock and roll standards as 'Twenty Flight Rock' and 'Walking In The Sand.'

Following this release, Beck will take the 'Rock And Roll Party' on the road for a short U.S. tour. Beck will once again be backed by The Imelda May Band and its enchanting singer, Imelda May, who joined Beck on stage at the 2010 Grammy® Awards for a spot-on rendition of Paul's 'How High The Moon.'

PBS will give fans a first look at a unique edition of this performance with the premiere of 'Jeff Beck Honors Les Paul,' a concert special that captures the first night of 'The Celebration to Honor Les Paul,' which was recorded on June 9, 2010, what would have been Les Paul's 95th birthday. Fans can now revisit the conception of Nine Inch Nails. Trent Reznor's Null Corporation has teamed with UMe/The Bicycle Music Company to release "Pretty Hate Machine: 2010 Remaster" on November 22, 2010. After completing the score for David Fincher's The Social Network, Reznor oversaw the digital remastering of Pretty Hate Machine from the newly unearthed original tapes with engineer Tom Baker (whose NIN credits include "The Downward Spiral," "Broken," "The Fragile," "With Teeth" and "Ghosts"). This remastered version includes an eleventh track, a cover of Queen's "Get Down Make Love," originally the B-side to the "Sin" single and produced by Al Jourgensen. Rob Sheridan, NIN's longtime art director, has also re-imagined the packaging of "Pretty Hate Machine" under Reznor's supervision. As a young musician in Cleveland, Ohio, Reznor took a job at a local recording studio and employed unused studio time to develop his own material. The nascent album was later recorded with his favorite producers including Flood/Mark Ellis (U2, Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey), John Fryer (Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil), Adrian Sherwood (Ministry, Cabaret Voltaire) and Keith LeBlanc (Tackhead). The result was the first Nine Inch Nails album, 1989's "Pretty Hate Machine." All songs were written, arranged, programmed and performed by Reznor. The album featured the breakthrough singles "Sin," "Down In It" and "Head Like A Hole," and ultimately sold over 3 million copies, reaching Triple Platinum sales status. In the wake of the album's initial underground success, NIN soon developed a reputation as one of the best live acts in rock and joined the inaugural Lollapalooza tour in 1991. NIN have since sold more than 18 million albums, collected Grammy® Awards and headlined arenas, amphitheaters and festivals worldwide. The Bicycle Music Company acquired the rights to "Pretty Hate Machine" from a division of Prudential Securities in the spring of 2010. It was Bicycle's intention from the onset to enable Reznor to regain some control of this lost piece of NIN's legacy, resulting in this artist approved 2010 reissue of one of music's most groundbreaking and influential albums. Note: The previous CD version was reissued in 2005 but was not overseen by Reznor and is now out of print.

Sometimes you have to shake things up, push a little farther, reach a little higher - even when you're a contemporary jazz foursome that's been operating at the top of its collective game for two decades. After twenty years and a dozen albums, in an industry that has undergone sweeping transformations in the past decade, Fourplay knows that the only thing that's certain, in music or any other business, is change. The latest proof of that axiom is the new face in their lineup - that of guitarist Chuck Loeb, who makes his compelling debut with the quartet on Let's Touch The Sky.

Loeb completes the four-man crew that also includes the band's founding members: keyboardist Bob James, bassist/vocalist Nathan East and drummer/percussionist Harvey Mason. Let's Touch The Sky also includes stirring performances by guest vocalists Anita Baker and Ruben Studdard. The infusion of new blood into the Fourplay lineup creates an opportunity to bring an even newer level of energy and inspiration into a band that is already known for taking chances and pushing the limits of contemporary jazz. "All four of us have been in this business long enough to know that there's always pressure to compromise, and we don't want to do that," says James. "We don't want to end up in the middle of the pack. We always aim to be leaders, and take the music to another level and raise the standards higher. I think the music on this new record, thanks in large part to Chuck's early contributions - and to the ongoing team spirit of the band as a whole - is very much a reflection of that philosophy."

Loeb, who openly admits to being a fan of Fourplay since their earliest recordings, sees his new membership status as the opportunity of a lifetime. "I want to be a part of the legacy they've built, going all the way back to their first recording and right up to their most recent one," he says. "There's been an incredible level of quality in the musicianship, the writing, the whole sonic palette that they're famous for. I'm excited to be a part of the next step in the evolution of all that." That sense of romanticism combined with optimism defining the project makes the rhythmic and exotic title track the fitting opener to the set. Written by James, the song sits atop a comfortable Latin groove and showcases the interplay between the keyboardist and his new band mate on acoustic guitar. The follow-up track, Loeb's driving and intense "3rd Degree" is a reference to his role as the third guitarist in the Fourplay saga (the original lineup included Lee Ritenour, who was later replaced by Larry Carlton in the late `90s). The track is built on a syncopated rhythm that allows plenty of room for everyone on hand to stretch out and demonstrate their virtuosity.

Guest vocalists Ruben Studdard and Anita Baker appear on the soulful "Love TKO" and the dreamlike "You're My Thrill," respectively. Studdard was recruited by East, after the two had appeared together in a live performance in Washington, DC. "They were filming a television special," East recalls. "There was a break to reload the cameras, and I just started playing the bass line of `Love TKO.' Ruben stepped up to the microphone to sing, and everyone in the room just stopped. I knew right then that we needed to have him sing this song on a Fourplay record, and when we asked him, he was very much up for it. The whole thing just came together so easily."

Mason, who has held down the groove for Fourplay since the very beginning, says time has done nothing to dull the edge. The band continues to explore new ways to reach for the next level of musicianship and creativity. "Let's Touch The Sky is the perfect title for where we are right now," he says. "In some ways, bringing someone new into the fold has made us a new band. It opens up new opportunities and new potential, and we want to see how high we can take it."

The album is a collaboration between Elton and Leon Russell, with songs by Elton and Bernie Taupin; by Elton, Bernie and Leon; by Elton and Leon and by Leon alone.

The Union was recorded in LA earlier this year, with guest musicians including Brian Wilson, Booker T, Don Was and Neil Young. Tiger Suit was recorded in Berlin's Hansa Studios, where many legendary albums, such as David Bowie's Heroes, U2's Achtung Baby, and Iggy Pop's Lust for Life, were made. "There's a lovely self-sufficiency in Berlin, where people are just doing whatever they want to," Tunstall says. "It really informed everything. There was an angular nature to what we were playing and a fierceness that I felt was very appropriate for what I'd written."

Berlin odyssey set the scene for Tunstall's awakening to the wonderful world of synthesizers. "I was very scared of them because I felt that they would be an albatross around the music," she says. But that was before IAMX, aka former Sneaker Pimp Chris Corner, supplied her with a couple of "transporting" arrangements. "Then every synth came out of the box and I entered a world that I am completely smitten with now." Pride of place in Tunstall's armory went to the Yamaha CS-80 -- Vangelis' weapon of choice on the Blade Runner soundtrack -- which she describes as "a huge beast, like playing a couch."

Without sacrificing any of her personal storytelling touch, the sonic landscape of Tiger Suit shifts from the uninhibited tribal yelp of "Uummannaq Song," inspired by her Greenland foray, to the analog drone-meets-oriental chime and flutter of "Lost," by way of "Push That Knot Away," which she calls a signature track on the album. "It's about confronting fear rather than running away." Then there's the rollicking first single, "Fade Like A Shadow," which Tunstall explains is about a person who haunted her for many months. "The person is still very much alive, but my interactions with them led to these weird, almost visitation-like feelings that I found difficult to shake off."

Elements of all the influences that make up Tiger Suit come together on "(Still A) Weirdo." A beautiful acoustic guitar line floats through organic and electronic rhythm sounds, while the lyrics are some of Tunstall's most personal. "It's one of those rare moments where you can see yourself objectively and look into your own emotional machinery and realize what you are," Tunstall says. The journey continues through the extra-terrestrial blues of "Golden Frames" (featuring the formidable Seasick Steve), and the glam strut of the anecdotal "Madame Trudeaux," to the up-tempo swagger and hum of "Glamour Puss."

"Making the album felt a bit like an archaeological dig," Tunstall says. "I had to dig deep to uncover what most turns me on. The best way I can describe it is that I discovered the indigenous part of myself by going back to campfire dance music just as much as club dance music. When I grind my boot heel into the floor, it's connected to when I went clubbing in Berlin. Losing yourself in the middle of nowhere around a fire is no different to losing yourself surrounded by hundreds of people on a dancefloor."

This 8th album is a collaboration between Daniel Lanois, known for his co-operation with U2, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, The Neville Brothers and many others. Lanois won producer or co-producer Grammy Awards in 1987, 1992, 1997, 2000, and 2001.

Young and Lanois have crossed paths musically over the course of many years, including Lanois' performances at Young's Bridge School Benefit Concert and Young's performance at Farm Aid when Lanois was Willie Nelson's music director, but this is the first time the two have recorded together. Recorded in Lanois' home in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles, ‘Le Noise’ features Young on acoustic and electric guitars with Lanois adding his trademark sonic textures, creating one of the most sonically arresting albums Young has ever recorded. No band, no overdubs, just ‘a man on a stool and me doing a nice job on the recording,’ as Lanois puts it.

‘Neil was so appreciative of the sonics that we presented to him,’ Lanois says. ‘He walked in the door and I put an acoustic guitar into his hands - one that I had been working on to build a new sound. That's the multi-layered acoustic sound that you hear on the songs 'Love and War' and 'Peaceful Valley Boulevard.' I wanted him to understand that I've spent years dedicated to the sonics in my home and that I wanted to give him something he'd never heard before. He picked up that instrument, which had everything - an acoustic sound, electronica, bass sounds - and he knew as soon as he played it that we had taken the acoustic guitar to a new level. It's hard to come up with a new sound at the back end of 50 years of rock and roll, but I think we did it.’

We were not making an album.

For months, we'd been destroying and rebuilding our band. The experiments that resulted filled the studio hard drive with diverse, abstract sounds. Amorphous echoes, cacophonous samples, and handmade staccato merged into wandering, elusive melody. Each track felt like a hallucination.

We didn't know if any of those unorthodox ideas could be incorporated into a traditional album, but we knew we didn't want our next album to be predictable. Sitting together in the same studio where we made our first album, all six of us voiced a commitment to going out on a limb, to making something truly daring. We asked ourselves: were we all earnestly willing, more than ever before, to abandon the precepts of commercial ambition in pursuit of what we believe to be honest art?

The inclination to begin writing conventional songs for a conventional album came and went. The temptation to adjust our creative vision to fulfill expectations beyond our studio walls yielded to the audacious ambition of what we hoped to achieve as a band. The two years of making 'A Thousand Suns' marked our exhilarating, surrealistic, and often challenging journey into the creative unknown.

On the eve of its completion, this body of work, assembled through unconscious inspiration and unmitigated exertion, has revealed to us notions both stirring and surprising. The album's personified imagery is neither dogma nor political premeditation. The emergent themes and metaphors illuminate a uniquely human story.

'A Thousand Suns' grapples with the personal cycle of pride, destruction, and regret. In life, like in dreams, this sequence is not always linear. And, sometimes, true remorse penetrates the devastating cycle. The hope, of course, springs from the notion that the possibility of change is born in our most harrowing moments.

For Sheryl Crow, the title of her seventh album isn't just a location; it's a state of mind. "I grew up in a small town 100 miles from Memphis, and that informed not only my musical taste, but how I look at life," she says. "The drive to Memphis is all farmland, and everyone is community-oriented, God-fearing people, connected to the earth. The music that came out of that part of the world is a part of who I am, and it's the biggest inspiration for what I do and why I do it."

So for the Kennett, Missouri native, calling the disc 100 Miles From Memphis is a statement of purpose, both musical and emotional. It also marks a long-awaited return by the nine-time Grammy winner to the sounds that first drew her to making music.

"This is something I've been thinking about for a long time," says Crow. "When (manager Scooter Weintraub) first started working with me twenty years ago, what he heard in me was that I had heavy influences from the South--Delaney and Bonnie, all the Stax records. So for years he's been asking me, `When are you going to make that record?'"

The results evoke a time when soul and passion filled the radio waves, when the sweat and joy of a recording session could be captured forever on wax. Sometimes the musical references--Al Green, Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder--are made apparent, but the album's eleven songs are characterized more by capturing a classic spirit than by imitating any specific style.

Crow explains that the way 100 Miles From Memphis was recorded is crucial to its slinky grooves and rolling rhythms. Produced by Doyle Bramhall II and Justin Stanley ("I knew they could get that old soul feeling with authenticity," she says), and cut mostly live with a regular crew of musicians, the album presented a new set of challenges for her as a singer and a songwriter.

Katharine McPhee warmly laughs as she confesses she's been in "artistic hiding" for the last few years. "It took me a long time to figure out where I wanted to go and be as an artist," she says. "I needed time to learn who I was as a musician." Once she discovered the answer, however, her path was sure and swift. On Unbroken, her Verve Records debut, listeners will discover a glorious side of McPhee previously untapped. Poignant, vital lyrics swell over full, lush melodies. McPhee's supple, clear voice, resonating with emotion and confidence, caresses each note on this collection of soon-to- be pop classics. Fans first met McPhee on Season Five of American Idol. The runner-up could seemingly sing any style of music, but especially mesmerized millions with her heart-stirring rendition of "Over the Rainbow." Her first solo album, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 in early 2007, only hinted at the extent of her talent--not only as a singer but as a songwriter--that Unbroken reveals. Unlike that first effort, McPhee co-wrote the majority of the songs on Unbroken, collaborating with fellow singer/songwriters Paula Cole, Ingrid Michaelson and Rachael Yamagata. "This record is definitely more personal to me," McPhee says. "I have more stories to tell. It's more of an artistic look at me as a person. Coming from a reality show, it's hard to know the depth of somebody. This record gave me that opportunity to show that. That's what Verve wanted from me: to make a record I was proud of. It was a huge blessing to give me that." Her vocals also display a new vulnerability and maturity that make Unbroken compelling listening. "I think I finally learned to breathe," McPhee says, both literally and figuratively. "I'm grounded in my own body; my voice was grounded. Having a big voice, I had to realize that singing high notes didn't equal artistry. This is more about how I can interpret a song, the nuances of singing." While sounding utterly contemporary, McPhee also drew from the tremendous voices that have guided her throughout her life ranging from Nina Simone to Sarah McLachlan. "I wanted some older influences on here," she says. "My mom is a cabaret singer; I grew up with the Great American Songbook. That's why I know all the standards, but I always had a want and a need for pop music." McPhee began work on Unbroken in 2008. At the urging on Universal Music Group chairman Doug Morris, she traveled to Nashville several times to write with some of Music City's top songwriters. "It was a really great place for me to grow as a songwriter; see how it's done," she says. What emerged were tales of resilience, of being bowed but not broken by life's experiences. "There are a lot of dark stories. I see a lot of sadness in the world," she says with a shrug. "I don't always have a rosy picture of the world. That comes out in my music more than I would like it to." "How" faces taking charge in a suffocatingly dark time. "The lyric was just so meaningful in so many ways," McPhee says. "I had to be in a position where I said, `This is my life'." The devastating, string-laced ballad "Say Goodbye," received its premiere when McPhee appeared on CSI: New York. Written about the pain that precedes an inevitable break up, "Say Goodbye," is "the slit your wrist song," McPhee says. (CSI: New York isn't her only acting credit; McPhee has appeared on Ugly Betty, also co-starred in the 2008 hit The House Bunny and has a lead role in the upcoming feature film You May Not Kiss the Bride). McPhee makes the driving first single, "Had It All," written by Kara Dioguardi, Mitch Allan and David Hodges, completely her own. The tune's upbeat melodies contrast the often downbeat lyrics of someone who appears to have lost it all: "The song represents a lot of stuff in some of our lives, looking back to the past," she says. "We can feel like we maybe made mistakes, but it all works out." But McPhee is far from a gloom merchant. "Lifeline" is decidedly upbeat. "Surrender," co-written with Michaelson, is ultimately a self-affirming call to love yourself as much as others do. The breathtaking title track, written with Cole, features one of McPhee's most stirring performances about coming through troubling times scarred but stronger. McPhee paired with producer John Alagia, best known for his work with John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band and Jason Mraz, to record Unbroken in studios throughout Los Angeles. "Part of John's charm was that he's just such a blast to hang out with," she says. "His contribution was really bringing in the right musicians and taking the vision to the right level." Among the top-flight players on Unbroken are drummer Victor Indrizzo, pianists Patrice Rushen and Billy Childs and guitarist extraordinaire Paul Jackson, Jr. The album's sole cover is the bonus track, McPhee's sprightly version of Melanie's 1971 hit, "Brand New Key." "I'd never heard that song in my life," she says. "It's so weird and so cute. People who really know me know that I'm a weird funny girl. I thought it was cute and good to have another fun song on the record." Along with her musical rebirth comes a stunning physical change: McPhee recently transformed from a long-haired brunette to a sultry blonde. "I've never done anything crazy like this," she says. "I didn't think I would cut my hair off or go this blonde, but I'm going through changes. Searching for lyrics and meaning in the record just sort of forced me to examine inside and out."
