Sainthood by Tegan and Sara : CD released on 10/27/2009

Tegan and Sara's sixth studio album - Sainthood - addresses secular themes of devotion, deception and exemplary behavior in the search for love andrelationships. Inspired by the emotional desire and expect quiet actions can be noticed with the objects of our affection, holiness is the obsession with romantic ideals.
In the service of relationships that practice to be perfect. We practice our holiness in the hope that they will be rewarded with the adoration. As we are forced to become anything to anyone else, sometimes they become martyrs for our cause.
Love, like faith, can never be considered in the hands of an individual. But a great love story - especially one that is not reciprocated or early termination - can be woven as scripture or story. And so the themes of saints are united by this simple title, borrowed, with great respect, the letter of the Leonard Cohen song "Came So Far For Beauty."

The Eternal by Sonic Youth : CD released on June 9, 09

After years on Geffen Records, Sonic Youth return to an indie label with their sixteenth studio album. "The Eternal" is a supercharged rocker, recalling aspects of the Evol-Sister-Daydream Nation holy trinity, but with cleaner, louder production and more straightforward momentum. With Pavement's Mark Ibold joining on bass, and producer John Agnello back at the controls, "The Eternal" takes the melodic songwriting of 2006's "Rather Ripped" and slams down the accelerator pedal. Initial pressing in a 4-panel wallet with two printed inner sleeves; one containing disc, the other a sticker and card with credits. Subsequent pressings are jewel case. Double LP hyper-deluxe HQ 180 RTI vinyl analog in heavy duty Stoughton gatefold sleeve, printed inner sleeves, and MP3 coupon.

Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear : CD released on May 26, 09

Grizzly Bear Yellow House released in 2006. It was a slow, steady and beautiful trip, and given the album is not earthy charm and stamina, it's hard to believe three years. That may seem like a long time.

But seen Grizzly Bear s hectic touring, including stints with Radiohead, TV On The Radio and Feist as well as various performances during a five-night tribute to Paul Simon at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, a co-headlining show with the LA Philharmonic, and the release of the friend, a 10-number of the EP re-recorded and re-worked songs, collaborations and covers all of this seems reasonable.

They have been busy. But about a year ago, singer / songwriter Ed Droste, drummer Christopher Bear, woodwind player / bassist Chris Taylor and singer / songwriter / guitarist Daniel Rossen s other band, Department of Eagles, released the sublime In Ear Park last autumn began passing around demo and work together creatively in different combinations and permutations. A few months later settled with producer / engineer Chris Taylor s mobile recording rig to begin the recording process Veckatimest, which would unfold in the next six months in three very special locations.

And in many ways, the recording process this record shows that any space catalyze different interactions, inspirations, and finally, songs. In July the band spent three weeks at the Glen Tonche home in upstate New York. While still finding their feet, much of the album is the basis was laid there. After the short break for the Radiohead tour in August, the band convened at a house on Cape Cod, friendly by Droste s grandmother, where she again addressed and solidified the compositions they d started on Glen Tonche. Finally, Grizzly Bear came home to a church in NYC, to refine and Veckatimest album named after a small, uninhabited island on Cape Cod that the band visited and was inspired by, wish her Native American name. Artist William O'Brien made Veckatimest s colorful, hand-made work of art a perfect complement to the album title is enigmatic. There is an incredible brightness of the picture and sound Veckatimest: vocals (a duty shared by all band members) are sharper and more complex arrangements are tighter, the production is more enterprising and lyrics more influence.

After the opening of the creative dialogue at such an early stage, Grizzly Bear was able to these 12 songs together as a band, their best composition requirements together album to date. This yielded an unexpected mix of materials that feel more confident, mature, focused and most of all, dynamic. From songs like "Dory" (a psychedelic graceful, ever-changing work), 'Ready Able' (a synth-y opus, and one of the four songs that boasts string arrangements by composer Nico Muhly) and 'Foreground' (a plain, vocal-driven farewell, and one of the two tracks to feature choral works by Muhly schemes) to more pop-sounding songs such as' two weeks (another worldly doo Wop with backing vocals by Beach House is Victoria Legrand) and "While You Wait for the others "(a triumphant cacophonous and melodic pop masterpiece) Veckatimest is an album of the highest highs and lowest lows an incredibly diverse collection of songs that celebrates the strength of each band, and the strength of the whole. It was certainly worth the wait.
