BHB, Ballas Hough Band ; CD released on Mar.10, 09

Anyone seen the hit TV series Dancing with the Stars even a cursory glance will tell the names Mark Ballas and Derek Hough. Since 2006, the two professional ballroom dancers and their celebrity partners led to victory in successive seasons, the trade in months of grueling practice and competition for a coveted Mirror Ball trophy. "I love to entertain people," says Mark, who have the crown on season 6 with Olympian Kristi Yamaguchi (Derek won in season 7 with Brooke Burke). 'See people laugh and enjoy themselves, that is what I live. "
But never has a public entertainment form for Mark or Derek. The two best friends are playing and making music together for more than a decade, between Touring theatrical productions and ballroom competitions. And like any performance they have crossed their collective to-do list, a career in music was a dream that they worked tirelessly to. "To play gigs in London, we had often to the Tube," Derek recalls. "We carry all our gear - amps, guitars, keyboards - down the mile long escalators and the train. For a while, we did almost every weekend!"

Mark and Derek's love for music was apparent from a very young age. Mark received his first guitar when he was seven, around the same time Derek began playing the drums. By the time they are in their early teens, the two had both mastered the guitar and began to write songs that exhibited their unique talents, three and four-part harmonies (a skill for Long years in the musical theater circuit) Mark percussive drilling, Flamenco-style game taste and a natural affinity with irresistible melodies.

Music of all types and genres filled the Ballas' London home, where Derek lived since the age of 12 years and was also an important part of their dance routines, so the pull was natural. The boys' musical band, but came from a seemingly unlikely place: a Korn concert in London's Wembley Arena. "Until that moment, I was not allowed to listen to bands like Nirvana," says Derek, who, together with his sister Julianne (a two time Dancing with the Stars champion), was raised in a very conservative household. Mark was determined to his friend in spirit. "I was like, 'Dude, stop a wuss,' and I took him to see Korn for his first concert," he says. "We threw him on the top of the crowd and it was like the transformation was made."

Although still years away from entering a pub legal conversion stirred hopes for a touring band and Mark went to the task of finding players to complete the as-yet unnamed project. He did not look too far. Harry Sullivan, whose parents are close with the Ballas family, was thought drumming and Emily Grace, a classically trained pianist and classmate of London's Italia Conti Academy of Theater Arts, is a no-Brainer for keyboards. They found their bassist Sam Marder, cold call Surrey the prestigious Academy of Contemporary Music. "We call the school and sort out this story about how we were ever signed and bassist needed," says Derek. "They gave us three phone numbers and Sam was the first person we called."

Impulsivity means that they are good in the coming years. Case when the boys were offered spots on the U.S. version of Dancing with the Stars, she accepted, although they fear that the music would eventually take a back seat. "Moving from London to Los Angeles, where we do not know anyone ... We were just not sure," says Mark. "But then we thought, we have the meeting in England have been struggling. Forget it, let's just go. So we arrived in LA no car and nowhere to live, just a guitar and a suitcase. And since then we 's to work on our dream. "
